Het is een levend materiaal: werken, knoesten en kleine scheurtjes horen erbij. We drogen en coaten de items voor transport, maar diepgeworteld vocht kan na verloop van tijd naar buiten komen. Een jaarlijkse behandeling met beschermende olie wordt dan ook aangeraden — dat herleeft ook de kleur.
