Lythrum salicaria, ook wel kattenstaart genoemd, is een krachtige, rechtop groeiende vaste plant met lange bloeiaren vol helderroze tot paarse bloemen in de zomer. Deze inheemse plant is ideaal voor vochtige borders, oevers en natuurlijke tuinen, waar hij langdurig kleur en een natuurlijke uitstraling geeft. Lythrum salicaria houdt van een zonnige standplaats en vochtige tot natte grond, is onderhoudsarm en goed winterhard. Bovendien is hij zeer aantrekkelijk voor bijen, vlinders en andere bestuivers.
