Ja, de Druivenplant is een overblijvende, houtige vaste plant met een zeer langlevend karakter. Een druivenstok kan moeiteloos tientallen jaren oud worden. Naarmate de jaren verstrijken, wordt de stam steeds dikker, grilliger en karakteristieker, wat de esthetische waarde in de tuin alleen maar groter maakt.
Waarom vallen de kleine druifjes na de bloei massaal af?
Dit verschijnsel staat bekend als 'ruren' of 'bloemrui' en is deels een natuurlijk proces waarbij de plant overtollige vruchten afstoot die ze niet kan voeden. Als de uitval echter extreem groot is, komt dit meestal door slecht weer tijdens de bloei (te veel regen of kou) waardoor de bestuiving niet optimaal is verlopen, of door een acuut gebrek aan voedingsstoffen in de bodem.
Hoe voorkom ik dat vogels al mijn druiven opeten?
Vogels zijn dol op de rijpende, zoete vruchten en kunnen in korte tijd een hele oogst vernielen. De meest effectieve en diervriendelijke manier om dit te voorkomen is door de trossen in de loop van de zomer te beschermen met speciale organza zakjes of een fijnmazig beschermnet. Hierdoor kan de zon nog steeds perfect bij de vruchten, maar kunnen de vogels er niet meer bij.
