The orange-brown color of Corten steel is formed by a natural layer of rust. Another name for Corten steel is weathering steel: weather conditions have a positive influence on the Corten steel.
Corten steel is a metal alloy consisting of iron, to which copper, phosphorus, silicon, nickel, and chromium have been added. When exposed to the outdoors, the material becomes covered with a protective layer of rust. This natural rust layer provides protection against further corrosion. As a result, the panels have a long lifespan.
Points to note
- Products must be unpacked immediately upon receipt so that any moisture between the packaging and the product is not trapped. This can cause irregular rust spots.
- We advise against using Corten steel within a radius of 2 km of a coastline.
- During the rusting process, rust water may run off the product.
- The warranty is void if you drill or grind in a manner not prescribed.
- Clean annually by spraying off coarse dirt on the panel with tap water.
